FIRST SUNDAY LECTURE
PT 4
By Imam W. Deen Mohammed

[laughter]

00:05 Imam W. Deen Mohammed: Wood has value, had value a long time ago and it still has value, and wood will always have value.

[chuckle]

00:17 IWDM: Yes. Okay. So would you believe is hard to believe... We've got the most exciting life and the most exciting history, I believe, on the planet earth. I do believe that. I'm talking about exciting for the intellectual curiosities, exciting for the intellect, the rational mind and its power to see and produce wonders. We've got the most exciting history, yes indeed, and the most exciting life. How I was born in these United States of America, but never actually accept to be an American until in my late years after my eyes were fully open. I rejected. My family raised me to reject the white man and his world. Yes. From the cradle, my mother producing me while she was having that in mind. And she said, she used to whisper things into my ears before I even learned to speak, and said she would recite the lessons to me in my ears before I even learned to speak. My mother told me that. Yes, so I'm a creation not of this world. And that's a fact, that's real. I'm a creation not of this world.

01:57 IWDM: No. And I was produced from and for my father, produced from him and for his future, the future of his community. Yes? And now, G-d has put into my hands, what I mean by that, into my mental grasp, mind's grasp, he has put into my mind's grasp all the hidden things that he left with my father, Honorable Elijah Muhammad. And it's powerful. Now you all let these snakes among us...

[chuckle]

[background conversation]

02:55 IWDM: You know snakes are charmers too. You know that? Some snakes are charmers.

03:00 Speaker 2: We know the charmers! Yeah, we know the charmers!

03:00 IWDM: Then they got men that charm snakes but some snakes are charmers.

[laughter]

03:05 IWDM: They're called charmers. Yeah, they'll stand up and look pretty before you and get your eyes and your attention on them and you forget what he is... Boom!

[laughter]

[background conversation]

03:26 IWDM: Fangs in you, you died, too late, show is over. Yeah, some of them, right in this time, right now, they tell you, "Well, I love Imam." And what he gives us best is the Quran and the Soul of the Prophet. And now he made a complete turnaround, how he know, I can't understand why he's doing that. I don't know where he's coming from. Working well for us, got us where we are now, why this change? What is the change? I haven't changed. No, I haven't changed. Long time ago, I told you all that Mr. Fard had a strategy.

04:43 IWDM: And I told you all that I had grown to see that his intentions were good. I told you this years ago, at least 10 years ago! Yes? So this ain't no change. But now, they're greatly disturbed because I am addressing the teachings of WF. Muhammad, or WD. Fard. Greatly disturbed.

[background conversation]

05:11 IWDM: Why are they so disturbed? Because they never openly followed my leadership. They gave a open pretense of following my leadership, but they were always meeting together after I say things, they met together and they still meet together and discuss what I said. And then say, "Now, here's our plan, this is what we gonna do." They come behind every major thing I do and they say, "Now we see what he's doing, we see what the Imam is doing, now what are we gonna do? Okay, this is what we're gonna do." I can name them to you. Okay. So they're greatly disturbed now.

06:01 IWDM: I don't hear from them 'til the big ones came here and sitting right down there, over there on the side over there, sat way back. So, they're thinking I wouldn't notice, if I did, maybe I wouldn't say, "Brother Imam." Sat way back, hoping that I wouldn't get their attention, I wouldn't catch their attention or they wouldn't get my attention. And sat like FBI investigating the Ku Klux Klan out of old Nation of Islam. Sat together, right together, both of them together, two big ones, you know them, they're big, their popularity is real big among us. They sit over there and they're sitting like two FBI agents investigating the Klan, wanna hear what the grand wizard of the Klan was gonna say.

[laughter]

06:55 IWDM: And go back to their boss and tell him. That's how they sit over there. Went back, don't hear nothing from them. They know they can't approach me, 'cause they approach me on a serious matter, they know what's gonna happen. I'm gonna say, "No, you ain't with me." And I'm gonna have to expose you to the people, I'm gonna have to tell them.

07:21 S?: Go ahead!

07:22 IWDM: No. No. No, no.

[laughter]

07:31 IWDM: They got more misery in their darkness than I can give them in this light. [laughter] It will be a relief for 'em, for me to expose them, and bring them out, it will be a relief. I'm telling you, they're really having hell fire over there. You think the prophet didn't have such problem? He had people pretending they were with him, and they were so bitterly against what he was doing, they would get bubbling with poisons inside, but pretending they're believers, would see them and think that they were model believers, they were that good at faking it. The revelation came telling them, G-d is aware of you. See, you almost would bite your finger nails, the fingers off in rage. Allah said, "Die in your rage." Yeah, that's what Allah says in the Quran, "Die in your rage." That ain't no new thing. The plan is the same as it was as the day of the prophet, so you expect the same hatred for the plan, yeah? Same hatred, the same hate mongers, nothing changed.

08:50 IWDM: No. And we have to be strong and know that no matter how threatening against our own interests, our own lives and purpose, the scene looks, as long as you with G-d and faithful, you will be successful. Allah says that success of such believers are guaranteed, the believers must win through. This is the Allah in the Quran. So you just remember that and never let anything shake your faith. In 1975, what did I say, as a young minister, young in my development, I was 40 years old almost, but I was young in my development here and here. But what did I say? I knew it, G-d's will reaches you... Jesus spoke in the cradle. He was a baby yet in the cradle. I mean he asked questions that His mother couldn't answer, the child spoke in the cradle. Huh?

[background conversation]

09:56 IWDM: Yes! So I was in my cradle too, in 1975, but what did I say to you? I spoke from courage, because G-d's will was manifested and strong and well known inside me, I knew it. So I told you all... They can do whatever they wanna do. Come with their emotionalism and whatever. That the wind is not even gonna blow the curtains, they won't even shake the curtains on these windows. Praise be to Allah. That was the spirit of G-d speaking through me to let you all know, don't doubt this man.

[background conversation]

10:41 IWDM: G-d is with you, Allahu Akbar. Allahu Akbar. Praise be to Allah. Yes, we have things that he said. They don't want me, they shake in their shoes when they hear that I'm coming this way. But I have to say it, because we have to bring light where there's darkness. And if I've made Mr. Fard, who seemed to have been anti-white, and he's white himself in color, seemed to have been anti-white, seemed to be an anti-America, anti-America, seemed to have been all those things, and seemed to have been really anti-Quran, 'cause he was saying things that was against the Quran. Now if I say he's innocent, isn't it my job to clean up those areas of confusion and doubt? Those things that you can't manage?

[background conversation]

11:44 IWDM: We talking about the world scene again, back on the world scene. Mr. Fard said, "when you become... ", he told my father to tell us this and many of you heard it, when I say "many", maybe just a few here now but many heard it. None of them have passed away. He said, "When you become a member here, you become a citizen of every Muslim nation, every Muslim government." That's what he said. He used to preach that. He used to preach it weekly. "When you become a member here, you become a citizen of every Muslim government." Is that a reality? Yes, it is. Yes, it is. Because if you really can be proven that you're a Muslim, no Muslim government can prevent you from having a visa to go into that government.

12:36 IWDM: So it's true, what he said was true. So he said many things but why would he say something like that if he didn't want us one day to accept ourselves as being included in the international ummah? Huh? Why would he say that? So that show you that the plan was to one day have us in a mental situation, a mind situation, where we'll be comfortable identifying with Muslims all over the world as members in one ummah, the ummah of Prophet Muhammad.

13:08 IWDM: Ummah means community. And the ummah or the community of Prophet Muhammad. That's not all. When he said that a black man took black powder and filled it into two, and then made a hole in the earth that went a third way into the earth, and he filled the two with dynamite, black powder he call it, and dynamite is black powder, and he set it off, it caused an explosion. And the explosion separated a big piece of it from its original wholeness, and that piece that separated from it, was blasted off into space, and it became our moon. So, he calls this separation. He's not talking about any physical thing. Now, a man like him can't lie. He wasn't a liar. He wasn't a man to lie. But you're looking at the wrong world. He's not talking about the world of concrete, he's not talking about the world of solid mass, material thing, the earth and moon and stuff like that, those solids. He's talking about the world of the psyche.

14:44 IWDM: The world of the psyche, the world of the soul up here in the mind, huh? The soul is all in the body, but the soul likes to be near the throne, too. So, when the soul kind of converge its mass for the throne, for the health of the throne, it becomes psyche. And the psyche is a nerve body, it's a nerve sensitive body, the psyche. It doesn't act physically, it doesn't speak audibly, nevertheless, it moves things, it moves the person and through the person, it moves things. Yes. The psyche. The part of you that's working without your controls. What happens? He's talking about the psychology of the individual but also the psychology of the group, the collective body also. But it starts from understanding of the psychology of the person, the individual.

16:10 IWDM: Now, he said the part that went up as the moon lost all of its water to this part. So then the moon is a waterless body. If it's waterless, and he's talking about the soul and the psyche of the human person, what it means that it's waterless? It has no feelings, it has no emotionality. Spiritual, but without emotions, spiritual without emotions and spiritual without sensitivities, sensitivity to water. Sensitivity to water. Sentimental. They say you're sentimental, it comes from tears. Sentimental means you may laugh and cry a lot? So that's water. This is talking about your inner nature, inside you, not about the water you drink out of a faucet. Now, this man also said that if you develop and become wiser and wiser, you'll be able to take a glass of water, and looking at this water and see worlds.

17:39 IWDM: Now, don't think of a physical glass of water, but if I would give you a quantity of the world's sentiments and give it to you from history, this was their sentiments in Babylon. This was their sentiments here. Give you a quantity of the world's sentiments. I would be able to show you worlds through their sentiments. Can you see that? You should be able to see that. I can be able to... I report the sentimental life of the people of the world, and you will be able to see them clearly, more clearly than you will giving you their politics, or giving you the wars that they fought. If I could give you their sentiments, their sentimental composition. If I could give that to you, you would be able to see them clearly, more clearly than you would see them if I talked to you about their material history, or about their political history, or their wars and whatever. Do you understand that? Yes! So, you see where he's coming from? The man wasn't lying. The man is telling the truth. But it's in another sphere of reality, not the one you're looking at.

19:04 IWDM: And he didn't leave us with just that. He told Elijah Muhammad to tell your students, tell the ministers, tell the students. Tell them not to just look at what's on the surface. Tell them to study deep, study deep. And what did Genesis say? Darkness was upon the deep, and the spirit moved on the face of the waters. And a voice came saying, "Let there be light."

[background conversation]

19:37 IWDM: Same thing. Fard just restates things. He knows the wisdom, he knows the language, so he restates it, he puts it in his own language. Paraphrase, restate. Same wisdom. That's why some of you, you've been here since 1930, and you ain't going nowhere because you're still looking for that pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, and it's in my pocket now.

[laughter]

[background conversation]

20:11 IWDM: Yes, it's humorous when you look at it a certain way. Yes, now, we're getting to some more stuff. We've got to clear this up! We've got to put light where there was darkness if we're going to be free. The greatest freedom ain't the freedom to walk about through the city, walk from your neighborhood to another neighborhood. Or the freedom to get on a plane and go to New York City. That ain't the greatest freedom. The greatest freedom is to travel with your mind power, and thought travels 24 billion miles per second. You can be in another galaxy while that guy's trying to get to the corner.

[background conversation]

21:01 IWDM: Alright. Honorable Elijah Muhammad said, "Don't play with this." He said, "It's fire. It'll burn you up." Those were his words! Don't play with this. It's fire, it'll burn you up. But if I can educate you in the nature and power of the fire, you will be able to manage the fire. You will be able to cook some beans, and roast some lamb. If you want to. But really all I want to do is shine the light. I've got enough fire to roast lamb and beef and all that stuff. [laughter] And cook some beans and stew and all of that. I've got enough fire for that, I wanna just see the light shine.

21:56 IWDM: Now, these are dangerous things he said. He said, "A Muslim will kill a devil wherever he find him or see him." Isn't that what he said? Now, you think he wanted you to go out and do that? No, because he said, "Don't carry even as much as a pen knife." But what you gonna kill the devil with? If he said, "Don't carry even as much as a pen knife." Now, you can go out there, what you gonna kill him with? So, he defended himself, he knew he had defense from the law. If the police had went out there and killed the white man, then I'll kill this devil. And you got caught. When the police came for him, he said, "Did one of the members of our Nation of Islam do that? Well, we tell them not to even carry so much as a pen knife." Honorable Elijah Muhammad would speak, he said, "My savior told me, said leave him to me. I will take care of him." Now, he's telling you wisely, don't you think you can get up here now and fight the white man. Don't commit suicide.

23:25 IWDM: Honorable Elijah Muhammad was a great little man. I don't think there's been a man more significant on the American soil. I'm including whites and everybody. Not a man more significant on the American soil, in the American history, than Elijah Muhammad. Yes. Powerful man, powerful little man. And he couldn't have done that by himself, he was nothing. He was lost, like the rest of us. And was down more than most of us. Poor, drinking whiskey, staying drunk when he could get a drink, but only wanted to stay drunk, but he had great potential. And he had to stay drunk because his mind was more alert, more active than the mind of the average black and he couldn't live with this world the way it was and he couldn't deal with it, so he wanted to stay drunk. That's how Mr. Fard found him. My mother told me these things. She says, "Son, I used to bring him off the streets on my shoulder." She was a little woman, little frail woman, but strong. That black woman could whip every son she had.

[laughter]

24:43 IWDM: I'm telling you, grown and the young ones. She was strong and tough and she would let you know you're ready for a killing.

[laughter]

24:54 IWDM: You rebel against her and give her some problems, she let you know right now, you're getting ready for a killing. She said, when I get through with you, you'll have another spirit in you.

[laughter]

25:05 IWDM: And she wasn't joking. So anyway, she said... I didn't doubt what she said, because I knew how strong she was. She said, "I used to bring your father in the house on my shoulder."

[laughter]

25:16 IWDM: "See, I'll be dragging him, have him on my shoulder, I'd be dragging him, his feet be dragging. So when I get to his bed, see, I would drop him off my shoulder on the bed." She said that's the man that our Savior made what you see him to be today, son. Now that's a real woman letting her son know. So a son would never doubt that really G-d had come to her husband. Yes. G-d intervenes and G-d works in mysterious ways. Yes. He sends his angels to do his work. Yes, you should believe in these things. In Scripture, you should believe in him. I do firmly, yes. So, anyway, he said, "A Muslim will kill the devil." And then he says to us, "Your reward for bringing in four heads of devils, it will be a trip to the Holy City of Mecca to see brother, we used to say, "Muckmud." You hear that. A lot of you never heard that word before. That's how we pronounced Muhammad back then, to see Brother Muckmud.

[background conversation]

26:55 IWDM: Yes. Now what do you mean by that? We talked about dynamite destroying and we explained it, what it means, happening in the world of a psyche. What do you mean by take four devil heads at one time? And tell me how are you going to take four devils' heads at one time with a sword. You gonna be some martial arts expert?

[laughter]

27:19 IWDM: And in fact, technically speaking, you can't take four heads at one time. Impossible. Not at one time, not one person. Maybe if all four of them act in concert and they shoot off, cut at the same time, they can take four heads at one time. But how is one individual gonna take four devils' heads at one time? You can't do that. But who would question it? Do you know one fool tried to actually carry that out and got him some brothers together following him and guess what happened? Somebody cut his head off and this is actual truth. This really happened. My brother knew him much better more than I. My brother knew him before he joined the nation of Islam. I knew him too in fact, but through my brother because my brother associated with him. Came up in the same neighborhood like what you call gang-bangers now. Yep and he was converted and he took over the understanding of the lessons. He took it upon himself to act on what Mr. Fard brought. And he actually led a group of brothers and was telling them that they had to go out and bring four devil heads in, four white-people heads. And they found him, his head had been cut, severed completely from his body. And he says one of his own kind, one of his own followers did it, cut his head off from his body.

28:51 IWDM: This happened maybe about 20 years ago. Yes. So it's dangerous. You heard of the Zebras in California? Who kidnapped the publisher's daughter? Got her to join them. She actually joined them. She believed in what they were doing. She's white. They're black. 5% of us. And they started something very dangerous. They overcome, they got rid of it, or either sent it underground, caused them to go underground or something. But certain things are very dangerous and this taking of four devil heads or four white-people's heads very dangerous. That language is dangerous. With our people suffering the way they suffer, some of them will act on that. It's a possibility. And the proof that that is a possibility, the brother acted on it.
