07 Imam W. Deen Mohammed: Beyond the last prophet, the universal messenger of Allah, that is the Lord Creator to all people, as we say...

27 S1: We witness that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, the Lord Creator. One God, and we witness that Muhammad is not God. Muhammad is a messenger of Allah, and we make the salute to him. We pray the prayers and the peace be upon him. And that is to say also, that we are his followers accepting responsibility to lead as he led, and to follow as the best followers of the prophet. Those first followers of the prophet, we call the companions and also call Khalifas, several of them. Khalifas are rulers for the Muslim times of the early community of Muslims following our prophet, peace and blessings be on him.

41 S1: We ask Allah that he accept our efforts, and we pray to him for forgiveness for whatever faults we have, whatever short-comings we have, whatever defects we have, whatever sins we have. We pray to Allah for forgiveness and mercy. And we seek him for guidance that we may be guided right. And we accept as the supreme guidance in our life, the authority in our life, the revealed book, the last revelation given by God, the Quran, our holy book. And we accept, as the leader for us during all times, all times, and everywhere on this earth, that prophet to whom the Quran was revealed, Muhammad. Again, the prayers and the peace be upon him.

54 S1: Before beginning the address today I just want to acknowledge myself. I feel compelled to acknowledge the impressive gains, achievements for Muslims in Newark. We really were encouraged by what we saw last night at the awards banquet, the appreciation dinner, very much encouraged. On the way here from the radio station with Brother Hakim Mali, and we also got a chance to meet the African-American director there, we passed by a halal business, the halal business of Brother Akbar Salaam. And I was aware of his business, but I wasn't aware of the fact that he's also slaughtering. He's not only processing the meats, but he's doing slaughtering as well. That leaves us now to hope for, in the first achievement for us in the halal business, to hope for just one more part of the process, and that is producing the meat. We know we have some Muslims who are raising some animals for halal, scattered about throughout the United States. But to my knowledge we don't, as of yet, have a Muslim business person, or persons, with halal business responsible also for raising the animals that we eat, as well as slaughter.

01 S1: But I didn't know as, I repeat, I didn't know that we had a Brother with the business as adequate and as impressive as the business of Brother Akbar Salaam. He's not only serving Muslims needs, but he's also doing what we want to do and what we, I think, are unique in wanting to do, and that is share what we have with also non-Muslims. If Americans like Kosher, weenies, and corned beef, I'm sure they'll like halal products too. And this Brother has made me feel so good to know that he is doing that. And I'm just anxious to stay acquainted with what he's doing, so that if in any way I can give moral support, or my influence, influence of my office, and my office is built right upon you. When you move my office don't.

06 S1: But I hope to also be in communication with him so if the influence of my office is needed, I wanna give it, because we have our heart in that. We have our heart in the betterment of our people, and especially in the business improvement of our people. Now, I would like to begin this talk. This address is on, and I regret that we are not able to reach the many that have come here with the microphone system. I understand that we're working on getting the mike into a room, above us, that is packed just like this room here. It's crowded. And they are all in the halls. As I came in, people were all in the halls, and I regret very much that they can't hear. This is very much regretful. I hope that every person out there, if we have tapes of this meeting, make them available to them, free of charge.

25 S1: I know why you are clapping. See, I have to explain why the majority of them are clapping. The majority of them are clapping because they want that... They want that. They ain't clapping because I am a good fella.

44 S1: They're good people like I am, that's why they're clapping. I hope I am a good person. I try hard at it. I try hard to be one. Yes, this address today, how Muslims are to promote progress. We're focusing on religion, business, religion, business and race. Or I would rather put it in this order; religion, race and business, because we are going to address business in the end of this talk, God willing and with God's help. The main concern for us, in our religion, is to hold to what God has revealed, and do not allow our own thinking to change what God has revealed. There is no room in our religion for any alteration on what God has established in Quran and what prophet has established as the life of Muslims. For us, there is no altering that, no change in that. We live in that. I have been set on programs with leaders representing Judaism and Christianity. And they ask me, the moderator also is a Jewish one, they ask me, "Say, but there's no room in your religion for progress. How can your religion stay relevant, keep up with the times? You can't make any changes." I say, "Well, we believe God sees ahead."

39 S1: "No need to change. He knows what's ahead. He prepared it. Allah can't prepare for us at any time in the future? And He's supposed to be all-knowing? Knows the beginning and the end of all things?" So we really do discredit to our concept of God when we think we have to make alterations on what He revealed.
