United Ta'aleem CA
Sacred Life Connections

By Imam W. Deen Mohammed
As-salaamu alaykum.
All: Wa alaykum salaam.
With Allah's name, the gracious, the compassionate. Praying the peace and the blessings of Allah be upon the last messenger, Muhammad and asking His blessings on this gathering and on this occasion. I hope that I can accomplish what I have here for this address. First of all, let me say that the support that has been given to this United Taaleem from the many Muslim communities is impressive, it's very impressive. I was not aware myself of the support, the extent of support that you've given to this United Taaleem. Which makes us feel very good about the future for Muslims in California, West Coast area, and also for Muslims throughout the United States. Because your support here will eventually reach us, and encourage us in other locations to respond better and more to this need to come together as one community for the good of the Dawah in the United States, and for the good of our separate communities as well.
Let me begin by explaining the terms, the expression, sacred life connection. Really, we're referring to the precious life that Allah, our Creator gave us. And the blessings of our religion, the Quran, and the Sunnah of the universal prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be on him.
Present day concerns for excellence in the performance of one's work, one's profession, or one's private life. When we relate what we are really addressing today as problems for performance, problems for behavior, and problems for performance. As Muslims we see help, sufficient help in the teachings of Al-Islam for us, and also for other people if they will believe. I used to feel that I had to rely upon my own thoughts, my own knowledge from reading general kinds of materials on human problems and behavior. When I wanted to present a speech or an address on human behavior, problems of human behavior.
And I used to work hard, because the environment that I was formed in as a boy and a young man encouraged that kind of curiosity and that kind of studying. I would spend a lot of time studying behavior, questioning behavior, and trying to come up with a presentation on the problems for the individual, and matters of his own behavior. With more time and study given to the Quran and to the Sunnah of the prophet, I've come to realize that the best help comes directly from Quran and the Sunnah of the prophet. For all needs, the best help comes from the Quran and the Sunnah of the prophet.
Really, I sometimes feel that I'm not yet where I want to go in terms of being prepared to talk about this subject that I have been grappling with now for about 40 years, for a long, long time. I still feel that there is a need to respect the general audience of the American people. By that I mean, be aware, there's a need for me to be aware of their understanding, of their knowledge. And the fact that most of them are not acquainted with Quranic teachings, and the life of our prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. Bear with me, I hope that I won't be too ambiguous, or appear to be above what I am, or a philosopher of some kind, that's not where I'm at.
But I feel that it's very necessary to deal with some problems, and to use some terminology that you may think is the language of philosophers, but it's not necessarily so. The American society today, not only here, but America is a good focus for what is happening, good and bad everywhere. In the American society today, the quality of life is a matter of concern, while at the same time we know that this is perhaps still the richest country. Its institutions attract people from around the world, it's learning institutions attract people from around the world. Money, knowledge, and still the quality of life is threatened in America. Excellence is a real problem.
People want to do things hurriedly, people want to do things without due discipline, it's a big problem. That tells us we have to look somewhere else, that sometimes things develop in society, that put hope in another place. Whereas hope has been until this time a deterioration in the quality of life for Americans, hope has been in the fine institutions of the American people, in the fine leaders of the American people. But now hope must be found somewhere else. For Muslims we know where the rescue is. Its in Quran and in the Sunnah of the prophet, that's where our rescue is, we know. For the general American people, for the general community of American people, if we are to feel a part of them, if we are to share our identity with them. I'm speaking now mainly to native American Muslims here.
If we are to share that identity, common identity with American people as an American and thus to feel a responsibility to make our contribution to a solution for this problem of lost value and weakened performance on a part of the citizens of this country. Then we have to also try to translate what is good, for Muslims, so it can be imparted also to non-Muslims. Now, we can come straight from Quran and Sunnah, that's one way.
But when we do that, we miss a big audience because there's only a few people, a few American Christians and others that will have patience with us coming straight from Quran and Sunnah unless they're doing it as researchers or students. They'll be afraid that we're trying to convert them. They'll be afraid that we're trying to make them all Muslims when some of us may not have that at all in our hearts as a goal. We might simply be trying to share with our fellow believer in G-d, the blessings of our religion that is needed in their life in this time of decadence.
Getting back to what I mentioned now, a few minutes ago, on knowledge of the self and human behavior, questions of human behavior and how to develop a speech, how to present a talk on that. The problem for me of relying too much on myself and on the textbooks and the books of author scholars, the scholarly authors, and not going as I should have been going to Quran and Sunnah.
I came to see that really Quran gives us, in the best way, teaching on self, the problems of self, the nature of self. And the tendencies in self and in behavior given certain circumstances that make trouble for us. Unseat the government of self, destroys the government of self, deprives us of a good life. In the Quran Allah most high, says that He has created the human being in the most respectable mold, in the most excellent mold.
And Allah says, "He is blessed who spends on his own soul." He is successful who spends on his own soul and he is lost who discredits his own soul, who disrespects his own soul, who debase his own soul. So, I can reason from that. That Allah intend for us to be aware of our self, how we're constituted. What is possible for us in the way of excellence and what is possible for us in the way of deterioration and decaying trouble, et cetera.
In this day and time, given the problems for personal performance for human behavior in this environment of America, Muslim community must have leaders that will turn to Quran and the Sunnah for solutions. We know what the philosopher said but it's more important what Allah said. And Allah says that everyone acts according to his own disposition. Everyone acts according to his own disposition.
G-d also, Allah says-- You may say, "I know a philosopher that says that." That's okay about your philosopher who said that. That's okay. His word does not go as far with me and with many people with millions and millions and a billion of people like the word of G-d, you see, so that's okay what your philosophers said. Allah, most high, He also says that, His throne was established upon the water. To test you as to who is best in conduct.
He also says that, He created death and life also to test you regarding who among you is the best in conduct. That tells us something here, it tells us very clearly that certain circumstances for human being represent a test. Tests the human behavior. Challenges the human behavior. Certain environmental situations that you find yourself in. Those situations are going to challenge your ability to perform in a civilized excellent way.
And if you don't have help coming from somewhere, you'll be in a world of trouble. The best help, I repeat, is coming from Allah. Comes in the Quran and comes from the Sunnah of the prophet. Also, in these modern times we find a tendency in American society specially, to imitate others. No matter how much they're saying to us, "Walk in no man's shadow," this problem of imitating others just keeps growing. They need help from Quran and Sunnah.
You just can't imitate anybody that impresses you. You'll be in a world of trouble. But G-d has given us the universal model of perfect human conduct, character, image, behavior, et cetera. That's the Sunnah of the prophet, peace and blessing be upon him. We should be protected by the Sunnah of the prophet. Some of us think, Sunnah of the prophet, how do you eat and what? He ate with his right hand and now you eat with your left hand. And he said this and he said this before he went to bed. And he said this upon rising up." That's one aspect. Look and see what kind of spirit he had. In the report of his life you can see clearly a unique spirit in the prophet Muhammad, peace and blessing be upon him. You can see also his behavioral nature in the study of his life, in the study of the Sunnah. You can see very clearly his behavioral nature.
You should pattern yourself after his spirit also. After the universal character of the Muhammad spirit, the universal character of his behavior. You should pattern yourself after that also. But to know that you're going to have to look closely, you're going to have to be intelligent, you're going to have to look for more than rituals, you're going to have to look for more than outer show. You have to look for more than just the simple things of his life.
You're going to have to look into the depths of the essence of Muhammad to see what kind of spirit protected him. Why G-d made this man a model for all of us. Will he do it just because he ate with a certain hand, with the right hand. Will he do it just because he spoke nice words and he didn't tell lies and he didn't-- will he do it? No. It must be more than that. The man had the spirit that G-d wants in us. Prophet Muhammad Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Salaam, he had the spirit that Allah wants in us, and not only that he had the behavioral tendencies that Allah wants in us. He had the motivation that Allah wants in us, he had the aim that Allah wants in us, he had the idea of reality and where he is in it and what he should be doing in it that Allah wants us. You must go to the life of Prophet Muhammad for more than those rituals, those simple traditions.
Muhammad was chosen and inspired by G-d and like the other prophets, his life reflects an appreciation for excellence. This world now needs a passion for excellence to save it, doesn't it? It needs a passion for excellence to save it. We know in the early history of this country as an industrial world, an industrial society, the passion for excellence is what put it on the map industrially. A passion for excellence. And no people get far without a passion for excellence. Our Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Salaam has said, "The believer when he does the work, he seeks to perfect it, when he does the work, he seeks to perfect it."
The Prophet tells us that then we should feel obligated to seek excellence in everything we do, this is Quran also. The Prophet has then obligated us by his own teachings to seek excellence in everything we do. There's one of the hadiths by the Prophet that's well known he says, "When you slaughter the animal, slaughter it with excellence. Don't do a sloppy job, see that your knife is very sharp so you don't do a sloppy job. So, you cause the least suffering to the animal and the cut is nice no sloppy job." If he has given us that principle in that situation, then we should know that that principle is to be applied in every situation. The Prophet wouldn't say be neat here and be sloppy there.
The Muslim artist he should try for the best, try to perfect his work. The Muslim scientists should perfect his work, the Muslim politician should perfect his work. All of us should be looking for excellence in our work, excellence, to come up with excellence that should be our motivation. We Muslims must be fired up with a passion for excellence. And it should start right in the way you treat yourself. Don't brush your teeth like you don't care about them, do the best job, be proud of the job. When you finish brushing your teeth you should feel good.
Now, if we apply this same principle to demand for respect from each other in our home. Husband for wife, wife for husband, parents for children, children for parents, children for each other. Look how beautiful our lives would be. Some of us have been struggling in the dark for the way to live the Muslim life. We say, "Oh, I don't know enough, I don't know enough, I wish I knew more about my religion so I can live it better." No, Allah has made it very easy for us. Allah says, "Take as much of it as you can." He said, "Do the best, and take the best of the religion." The principle for our behavior, the principle for coming up with a good life and for our behavior is excellence.
Let me tell you something, the message of excellence is even in the first words we hear when we wake up in the morning. Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar. Look, thats a relative thing there. Allahu Akbar is relative. There's that is less and there's that is better, Allahu Akbar. There's that, that is great and there's that that is greater Allahu Akbar. Okay, Allahu Akbar, Allah is the better, so you should be the better, yes, you should be the better. Allahu Akbar, Allah is the better, Allah is the more important. Now, we know that the first requirement is that we understand that our attention is called to recognized G-d as being more important than anything else.
Get up from the sleep, if the bed is important to you get up from the bed Allah is more important, yes, so whatever. We know what the first message is Allah is more important, but there's another message, the messages never stop coming they are endless. There's another message, it's a philosophical one, it's a philosophical one, never choose the inferior, but choose the superior, never aim for the lesser, but for the greater.
If that ain't good for you I'm telling you ain't nothing good.
Some of us worry about our situation and we say, "Oh, I wish I had enough knowledge and enough money to establish myself." It doesn't always work like that. You can have all the knowledge in the world and fail to establish yourself. You can have all the money in the world and fail to establish yourself. I was reading in a publication here very recently about how some people in Chicago won it big, in a Sweepstakes. They say, "Well, the Sweepstakes are over now," but they tell us about how good the Sweepstakes were when they were existing. They gave one woman who received about a $153,000 and she knew her troubles were over.
She went her and her husband and she invested her $103,000 in a restaurant business. And two years later, she was right where she started. And she said, "Well, it was good while it lasted." Now, I'm sure some of you would go to the Saudi Arabian embassy and say give me $100,000 I think once you do that you won't have to be bothered with me no more. I'll be a Muslim on my feet from then on. Not necessarily so. And there many cases like that. In fact, this article that I read it cited many cases, not just one. They gave at least three or four examples of people who hit it big but couldn't establish themselves.
So, don't think that money is the answer. Money is a help. Don't think that knowledge, science, wisdom is the answer, is a help. The answer is putting yourself in the proper order, put yourself in the proper order. Because if a bucket has a hole in it and you keep pouring water in it, you won't be able to carry water nowhere, if you do it you won't be able to carry it for long. You got a little distance to go you're going to get there with an empty pail. Because the bucket has holes in it. Likewise, for your own situation, if you don't put yourself in the right situation you can't expect too much in terms of success. It'll be short-lived, short-lived.
Let us rely upon Quran and the Sunnah of the Prophet and apply those teachings, apply the insight not only the teachings. But we should get help from the more intellectually brilliant, intellectually curious person in our community, studious persons in our community. We should get help from them to identify Quranic philosophical insight and pass them on to us so we can apply that to our life. The Muslim word must realize that it's in competition with Democratic West. Whether you want to be or not, we're in competition with Democratic West. And Democratic West rely upon education, philosophical insight to save its society from decadence, from total ruin.
Now, don't think America is not going to come out this. G-d knows I don't know. But from all indications given their ability, given their resources, this is just a spell for them, this spell is going to pass. They're going to retrieve what they've lost, they're going to restore what have been destroyed, they're going to bring again a sense of respect for long-established values back not only to the institution's but to the American public. This country undergoes season of high life and low life. While we enter a season of low life don't think its forever, the American people of no fools. We must prepare ourselves by using the best.
I didn't come here to stay all day and night. Because I want to see you again, and I know if I talk a long time, you'll wait two years to invite me again. As a curious person and a person with, I think I have almost fanatical belief in Allah and His messenger, peace be upon him. I'm close to be a fanatic. Sometimes I have to sober myself up. Yes, I have to say, "Hey, you're getting drunk now, Wallace, sober up." You fall in love and you're just reduced to nothing before the greatness of Allah and the greatness of the Sunnah of the prophet. You're reduced to nothing. You just seem to disappear.
And when that happens, you're drunk, when you come back, you're drunk. You have to ask Allah, please give me my footing again. Now you know if Moses swoon, it ain't too hard for us to swoon if we see just a little bit of what he saw.
I was thinking on the image of the Muslims in the eyes of a non-Christian world, of the non-Muslim world, the Christian world. And also, in the eyes of the non-G-dly world. I said to myself-- I don't mean the-- now necessarily the criminal world, I said the non-G-dly world. See on both sides you have criminals. I was thinking about it and I said to myself I said, "I imagine that the playful, silly-minded Americans, or people of the west, that come into a kind of shallow knowledge of what Muslims are. I imagine that they write us off as a tale from Arabian Nights or something." I heard one Christian say, Ali Baba and the 40 Thieves. Then I said to myself, I said, but those educated, serious minded, educated American, knowing the importance of OPEC and seeing the political developments in the Middle East, Africa, and Asia, seeing the courage of the Afghanistan freedom fighters, I'm sure that they have been motivated to take another look at Al-Islam.
We don't know about it, but I'm sure that privately they are taking another look at Al-Islam. And that many of them, I'm sure, are going to Krochs and Brentanos and the public library. The Library of Congress, and they're trying to get some knowledge of Muslims. If they're not, then they're not what I think they are and I think they're intelligent people. Yes, now I said to myself, with my good-- I'm a good high school graduate in terms of my formal education. I consider myself a real good high school graduate. I'm not a college man.
By my own self-study, maybe I'm above average college man. Above average college man. Because the average college man in modern day America, he's about what, a 10th grader? That's because of the fallen level of excellence in this country. Yes. Not to criticize, just to point to a fact, thats all. I say to myself now, if I were to really look at the history that's available to me as a non-Muslim. I'm trying to put myself in a non-Muslim position.
If I were to look at the history that's available to me as a non-Muslim and see the great start given the Muslim people. By Allah, the Quran, and His prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him. And seeing how they had great examples in the companion and immediate leaders that followed prophet Muhammad, peace and blessing be upon him. And how they were able to make achievements, make great achievements in the field of learning and science and business et cetera, et cetera, art and everything. And impress the intellectuals of the Christian world.
And in time prove to be the factor for igniting their intellect for a revival of the sciences in their world. I said to myself, given all of that. And looking at the poor performance of Muslims in the world over the last 400 years or so. I would come to the conclusion, this will be my conclusion, that, yes, G-d definitely inspired Muhammad the prophet. Because if you have a little faith in you, you don't have to be a religious person.
If you just be a creature of faith, if you read the facts of Al-Islam, you're going to be impressed so, that you're going to come to the conclusion that no, it was impossible without a supreme phenomenon. A phenomenon working on his behalf, working for Prophet Muhammad, working for the Muslims that's beyond the reach of the average human mortal, the human being in his own human capacity. No, he could not do it without that outside factor. That higher factor, that higher help. That would be the conclusion that you've come to.
Then you would say, I imagine like I feel that I would. What happened? Now, I have come up with many answers for what happened. In terms of the industry. Actually, the Muslims, look here, anytime they made the best swords they also could make the best car. That same interest, that same discipline leads to the best car. That's metal work, That's industry. So, if they made the best swords, if they had the fastest transportation and they did. The Arabian horses were the fastest transportation, yes. They had the best transportation, they had the fastest transportation of their day and time.
They also could sail. That in time they proved to be the best on the seas. They proved to be best on the seas. So, what happened? I came to my conclusion, I said, "Well, when it comes to industry." Don't think I'm picking on the white man." No, I admire him. I admire him for his great achievements in science, in industry, et cetera. The white man was then and as a people now less evolve socially than we are. Then and now.
The white man's social life, when I say social life I'm talking about the beginning, the first base of social life, family life, respect for members of the family, respect for neighbors, respect for members of his own race and respect for members of other races. The white man has been behind us when it comes to that social life and evolution and he still is behind us.
If you take the Judaic Christian prompts from out from under the white man, he becomes a social savage. He becomes a social savage. He is capable of disgracing society more than anybody else. I'm not picking on him. Revealing helps everybody. I used to laugh at the behavior of blacks who were ignorant and didn't have religious principles protecting their life. But I got a job and finally got in a situation where I associated with whites of the same level.
And what they were doing then made me afraid. One of them said, "Why don't you come to our house tonight?" I wanted to be nice. I wanted to keep their friendship on the job. Because I was in a hoogie, what you call the hoogie, hoogie state area. Back then they would lynch you in Chicago. I was trying to keep their friendship but I just had to tell them and I found an excuse. I said, You all can get by with that but my wife would kill me.
He says that, "Christianity has lost its effectiveness as a religion and also as a moral source." I quoted him verbatim, "Christianity has lost its effectiveness as a religion and also as a moral source." If that's the case then we can understand how come we have to have bars on our windows, police dogs all around the places and pistols in the house, and not for wild animals. Man used to keep a shotgun and a pistol for wild animals. We have to have it now for wild citizens. Yes, we can understand it. When this country, this society has promoted freedom, individual freedom, individual liberty. By them coming off basis, getting off base with the very life that has made them presentable to the civilized world. It has been the principle of Christianity that made European man presentable to the civilized world. Is that right or wrong?
Now, when they get out of touch with that life, that religious life, then we can understand yet being under that belief that you should realize the full potential of your body, your mind, and your spirit. That you're entitled to freedom of your potential. Every individual is entitled to the right to free his potential. So, if he ain't' got no guide and has been cut off from his real sacred life. The sacred life he has been cut off from. All he has now is the worldly life as an influence in him while his potential is perversion. We end up with child pornography. We end up with the rape of old women, 80 years old. That's what happens in this society. We end up with senseless killing and senseless destruction and brutalization of human life. That's what we end within this life. Don't you know if we want to draw a picture of hell, we won't have to put a drop of paint on the canvas? Just direct everybody to look at America. Look at American in her decadence. That's the true picture of hell.
Well, not seeing the possibilities for white man's behavior, for the western people's behavior when they leave the guidelines of their religion. We should recall and remember also that Allah has given us Al-Islam as a protection for our life. And has given the Prophet's example as a protection for our life. Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, is very well known among us now that he said, "I leave you two authorities and as long as you hold onto them you will never stray." That is the Quran, the revered word of G-d and my own conduct, his Sunnah. Prophet Muhammad said, "Those among us who imitate the behavior of non-Muslims, of other people are not of us."
Yes, let me get back, I kind of lost my thought there. We want to go back now and complete what I was saying about the possible image that one would come up with of Muslims if they did independent research on their own. Sensible intelligence mind of a person. I didn't only come up with a conclusion that they would see the greatness of the early Ummah, the early days of the Muslim. But they would also see the potential of that great, great society. For coming into the leadership of democracy and also industrial excellence. The potential was there. The potential is there now for Muslims to come into the leadership of the fight for human excellence and environmental excellence.
In fact, it's there more for us than it is for them. That's the way I see it. I have studied the Bible, I have studied the Quran. I've studied Western philosophy. I've studied Quranic philosophy to the best of my ability. I have come to the conclusion that if the Christian man who believes in respect for human life would rely upon Quranic teachings and some of the Prophet's for his tools, his material to promote the idea he would be in a much better situation than he is now. That's the conclusion I've come to. I've come to the conclusion also that if the western man want to fire up his society for productive work, for industry, and industrial excellence. Not his resources, but the Quran and the Sunnah represent the best alternative for him. That's the conclusion I have come up with. Why is the Muslim world in this state then? Going back to what they were trying to complete. If they were good in science, if they led the scientists in the early days, they can do the same thing now. Yes.
And the other fields too. That we won't take the time to mention all those fields where the Muslim was the leader. The Muslims were the leaders. Now, I said to myself trying to come up with an answer. Our religion checks us more than Christianity as it perceived by most Christians check them. When it comes to preparing for war with another people, we can't do just anything. We have limits. The kind of ethical concerns that the modern West have and talks about only when their image is damaged by the behavior of some of their people, some of their leaders or the army in Vietnam or whatever. That is in the common man in this religion. We don't have to be intellectual to know that there are limits upon our behavior. We can't just invent any weapon; a warmonger would dream up. A warmonger can dream up all kinds of weapons but we have to look at the consequences. The moral consequences connected with that thing. So, the Muslims just couldn't compete with the savage from Europe who had just been dressed up by the renaissance. He could not compete with that savage when it comes to physical war.
Now, why would G-d allow that irresponsible savage that thought he was a good Christian to advance against Muslims and occupy the Muslim lands and take over their institutions and rule and control their knowledge for centuries and leave them today in the dark? Trying to find out how do we get back to where we were. Why would Allah allow that? Something must have gone wrong.
The Muslims lack the aggressiveness, they lack the aggressiveness. As the prophet predicted and I wont quote it all. But as the prophet predicted, that in time a law is favorable from one people to another. His favor goes from one people to another. He gives His favor to one people to see how they will respect it. And even though they be the Arab members of the tribal family of prophet Muhammad himself, they can be members of the Quraysh. That doesn't protect them. If we believe that, then we believe like Jews. Who think simply because you are a Jew, you would be protected by G-d no matter how negligent you'd be and your responsibilities to G-d.
Now, we don't want to believe like that. So, in time the favors are taken away from that people to try them. See now how good a Muslim you'll be with somebody else leading. See how good a Muslim you will be now with somebody else in the limelight. And many of the Muslim nations, many of the Muslim societies, they haven't been able to pass that test. If they had responded to the white man's savage aggression, with just as much devotion, just as much encouragement, just as much excitement, to promote the excellence of man. The West would have been defeated, the West would have been defeated. But instead they were worn out. You might say, they were worn out, that doesn't speak well of them. Look here, Muslims performed excellence in Syria, in Arabia, in Africa, in Spain, in many other places performed excellence. Not for one century, not for two centuries, in Spain it lasted for over five centuries. In America has just been performing here about 200 years, and already the sun has set, the sun of excellence has set. Don't write the Muslims off, it may be our turn now to come back.
I said to myself, "Well, the Muslims could not keep up with the West in warfare. Because, what we can do and can't do is more clearly defined for us than for them." We couldn't get the support of the Muslim public, the Muslim people at large, for the conduct of war that is associated with the West. No, we couldn't get by with doing those things, although they have charged some Muslims with cruelty, but those Muslims who are guilty of cruelty are the exception in our religion.
If you read the writings of some Western scholars themselves, Richard Allen and his book Imperialism and Nationalism In The Fertile Crescent. He brings the reader's attention to the kind of cultural benefits that the Christians came into from their contact with Muslims in the crusade, in battle. They were fighting the Muslims, and the soldiers observed that the Muslims would take the time to shave, to dress well, to look decent. Even though they were away from home for years on the battlefield, they would still find time to keep their appearance nice.
That speaks well for the Muslim's higher idea of his human excellence, for his higher idea of civilization. And that writer was telling the readers that we were sensitized even in war situation with the Muslims, that contact with them sensitized us for better levels of civilization. We know the excellence of the Muslims, but we also should be aware that the Muslims did not go forward with that excellence in the face of the threat from the West as they should have gone. They did not exert themselves as they should have exerted themselves, they did not prepare the Muslim public as they should have prepared the Muslim public.
They prepared the Muslim hierarchy. They prepared the Muslim elite, and failed to prepare the Muslim public as they should have prepared it. Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, did he start with the elite? He started with the public. He made an obligation on every man to pass on the tools, the fine tools of the new society, to those without those tools. He obligated his followers to do that, he invited everybody around him.
Around him was the rich and the poor, the learned and the unlearned. He invited everybody around him. Made education an obligation on male and female, every child born, both male and female, made education an obligation on them. That was lost. In the excitement, in the obsession.
I have come to the conclusion that, where as a prophet, because he is the highest in terms of development, human development, in terms of realizing his human excellence, his full capacity, the prophet is the highest. Whereas he can quickly come from darkness to light, from the life of the world, although prophet Muhammad never was a part of the life of the world, his excellence protected him from the bad influences of the world, even before he received revelation. That's why G-d chose him, he was created for that purpose. We know that some people even do not have to be prophets, I will change that, they don't have to be prophets, but some people are just prepared.
They are prepared for quick turns of fate. They can come from a life of nothing into a life of greatness, and yet retain their spirit, their good spirit, their humbleness, et cetera. But for some, they cannot make that change so abruptly without losing some good quality that they had even in their previous bad situation. I'm convinced that in time, that factor there, that factor working, the condition of being quickly brought in from heathen life, from Jahiliyyah life, into enlightenment and civilized life, it was just too sudden, I believe for the Arab world on the whole, to allow them to sustain that throughout the centuries.
What happened is that when the challenge came from The West, when the big challenge came, they had not the spirit to go and rely upon their moral resources, their academic resources, and come forward with that, with the forcefulness to bring the attention of the world on them. So, that the world would have value what they had to offer more than they valued dominance by Christianity. They didn't have the power, they didn't have the spirit to come out and meet the great challenge of the West. We know Salahuddeen, and many others. They had it, but those are few, they are the few. That didn't last too long, as the centuries went on and the West began to gain more power, and began to gain more attention to their own dreams of the destiny, the Muslims got weaker and weaker. I believe that many of the high leaders, intellectuals got together, Is this a prophecy? No, I can't prophesize. I want to correct something else, the Imam said I was inspired, he's using that word very loosely. I was conditioned.
There's a difference. The way we use it. The way we use inspired it's okay. The way the average person use inspired, it's okay. "I was inspired," thats right. But in the right text, "I was inspired," but you make sure you're in the right text, okay. The preparedness of the Muslim world for the challenge from The West is exemplified in just a few personalities, in a few examples. Especially during the years just proceeding the renaissance of the West, their coming into enlightenment et cetera. I believe that upon recognizing the West dawn or day of dawning in knowledge or enlightenment some of the intellectuals, the leadership got together they surrendered. Many nations had to surrender to the West. The West didn't conquer all the nations where it had colonies by force, it gained colonies in many nations because of the weak position and situation of those nations. They made a compromise and they allowed the West to come in and occupy their land for benefits. They gave him a lease to occupy and to operate and some of the leases didn't run out before the Islamic life ran out. I believe that there was a conspiracy, to sellout for worldly advantages. If we had had more Salahuddins, more men to defend our religion in the latter centuries of Islamic glory. Like we have in the present-day Afghanistan freedom fighters it wouldn't have happened buddy, it wouldn't have happened. Muslims would have demonstrated such courage, such moral courage, such determination, they would have demonstrated such human excellence, such spiritual excellence that they would have won the favor of the international public. And the fangs would have been pulled out of the beast before he got to the huge size that he is now. Oh, yes.
Now, apart from the Muslim moral checks on him and ethical responsibility that put him in a weaker situation in terms of meeting the challenge from the warriors of the West. There is also something else we have to look at. And that is the field of science itself. Muslims have more moral responsibility when it comes to the possibility for science than the West. Sometimes I hate to say this because I recognize the purity of the Bible, I recognize the beauty and the purity of the Bible but I also recognize big problems. You can be a good Christian, and read the Bible and the Bible will not check your moral life. Jesus himself, peace be upon the righteous Prophet Jesus, He is the image of the perfect human heart. For the Christians, He's that and for us, He's the righteous prophet we take nothing from him, yes. But his presence in the life of a Christian is not enough to check his morals. If it was, we would have just perhaps been brought here and made servants or slaves but the extent of subduing.
The extent that the West, the American white man went to, in an effort to completely subdue us cannot be understood in the light of Christian moral teaching. No. The Christian public should have been killed, should have demanded those people be stopped or killed. Saying, "No, you will not treat a human vessel like this." But it went on, How come? Because they found something in the Bible to justify. Again, we must understand Muslims that the Christian way is like the Las Vegas gambling operation. Says, "Well, if G-d bless you, if you're motivated spiritually and your pure in the spirit, you're safe, walk through the pages of the Bible, but if you're not woe, be onto you." Not only that, when it comes to Christ, the personality of Christ, the Christ Himself as an influence in the life of Christian peace be upon the prophet. Not from our view from their view, not from our book from their book. When it comes to the very personality of Christ Himself, Christ as most Christians know Him, Christ as the Blessing, oh, all of us safe with Him. But that very same Christ according to the New Testament is coming back and when he comes back, he's not going to be in the mind He was in before.
I'm telling you exactly what the book says, I hope I don't offend anybody. When he comes back, he's going to be merciless. The first coming of Christ is the coming of mercy, love. The second coming of Christ is the coming of a merciless executor of the law, a merciless executor. He's not going to have any mercy on the fruit of the womb, blood is going to flow until it becomes so high in the street it reaches the horses' bridle. He's going to drench his garment in the blood of the wicked. The average Christian think that that means if they don't accept the message of Jesus Christ, that if the heathens don't accept his message then go in conquer, wipe them out, have no mercy on them at all. They regard us as, black heathens, from Africa who didn't accept Christ. We chose Muhammad. Or, we stayed in heathen in African tribal religion. So, get those heathens bring them over here. Although some Christians according to their own history, some Christians protest when they learn that some Muslims were being treated that way too. Some Christians in American history protests. They said, No. They're not heathen. They're religious people, that they shouldn't be treated that way. This is in history. But those were just rare people in the history of Christianity and the history of the treatment of the slaves, very rare people.
The majority, they thought that they had okay from G-d to make work animals out of us, to treat us like work animal, to deprive us of human conditions, to take away family life and social life. They thought they were given permission from G-d to do that because we were just heathens. Yes. Now, Muslims we are blessed, to be saved from this, what do you call it? Revolving wheel. Revolving wheel of excellence. Where half of the wheel brings in the season of excellence. But when thats over, the other half brings in the day of just the freedom for anything and everything, that's what America has come to.
Yes, we are blessed. I'm glad I don't have to believe in the second coming of Christ. I'm glad I don't have to believe in the second coming of Christ. I'll be terrified. They tell me, "He's coming, oh, Lord." Yes, he is going to be merciless according to their own teaching, he's going to be merciless. He is going to be a bloodletting. He's going to enjoy spilling blood. And the fruit of the womb, that means the baby in the mother's stomach that hasn't been born. Not going to have any mercy on the fruit of the womb.
Whoever gave publicity to the thrills of coke on the national media must've been influenced by that teaching. Because that's not having any mercy on the fruit of the womb. That's not having any mercy on the fruit of the womb. I can recite to you many developments in this culture recently to verify that this civilization is really carrying out that thing, the second coming of Christ. Don't underestimate what I'm telling you. Don't underestimate what I'm saying to you today.
Now dear people, when I look with the eyes, put myself in the position of this western person and try to evaluate and try to see what happened, I must come up with this conclusion. That the Muslim world was brought to the dressing room, the room of life, great life, and civilization, by the Quran and Sunnah of the prophet. But they didn't finish dressing. They stopped short of putting on the rest of their finery. Yes, and maybe Allah will bless us, in this day and time, to go back and pick up where the Muslim world left off, when it was motivated as it should have been motivated, and put on the rest of those fineries. Thank you very much. As-Salam-u-Alaikum. Praise is Allah. Thank you very much. They say, when the call is made up yonder and down here, we will be there.
