Saviors Day
The Original Man
Chicago IL

By Imam W. Deen Mohammed
[music]
0:01:05 Imam W. Deen Mohammed: Is to let you know how serious I was. My number, when I got to be a senior for when I was 52A. That was my number, that's the Fruit number I received when I turned into an adult, when I got to be grown. They gave me and I remember the little secretary, he was a short brother, small body, thin-body brother, and I approached that post. He had nothing but joy in his eyes, and he said, "Brother Wallace, your number is 52A." You don't know, none of you can feel what I felt. Coming up as Junior Fruit, marching in the Junior Fruit, actually sometimes drilling in the Junior Fruit myself as a lieutenant in the Junior Fruit and now here I am accepted among the men and my number is 52A. Aww that was a great time for me. I guess I felt like those young boys still when they joined the... What did they call it? Bar Mitzvah or something like that?
0:02:28 S?: Bar Mitzvah.
0:02:29 IWDM: My mind got too many things, and I think I pretty near pronounced it correctly, yeah. Fruit, Attention. Alright, we still got some men in here.
[laughter]
0:02:42 IWDM: Praise be to Allah. As you were.
[laughter]
0:02:54 IWDM: In the US Military, our men learn to salute men who rank above them. We salute the stars and stripes. Old Glory. I do myself. You all, a lot of you all, you can't stay with me, you really know me for what I am. You'd have difficulty staying with me. Some of... On special days they put the flags out, on the street that I have to use, I walk. I go and do and run around the track for exercise, keep myself in some kind of health. And when I walk down that street, and I come to that big American flag hanging up there, I'm gonna show you what I do, for a white boss, that's what you call him, I call it our flag. The Nation's Flag, we the people's flag. When I come to that flag. I'm walking, right.
0:03:52 S?: Yes sir.
[applause]
0:04:09 IWDM: Yes. Upon entering the temple's auditorium, we learn to salute the flag of a Lost-Found Nation of Islam. And it used to be shown every time you... Soon as you got in that door and you looked ahead, up there to where the speaker was gonna be, if he wasn't already up there. What you saw was a nation of Islam flag. And we were trained, maybe you... Maybe they lost it as they got into Black Power, and money and fancy clothes, and diamond rings and all that stuff. That's that 1960s bunch. They probably lost a lot of that. But we didn't lose it, we had it. We would salute the flag of the Nation of Islam. And while saluting the flag, you were looking at, this was a good while ago. 'Cause they took that away after some time.
0:05:13 IWDM: See the Honorable Elijah Muhammad was no stupid person, he was very wise. So as things got better for us in the United States, the Honorable Elijah Muhammad removed the sign of a black man with a rope around, hanging from the tree, with a rope around his neck. That's what you would see with the flag, on a black board. They painted on the black board. The black man hanging from a tree with a rope around his neck. And in the same area of the black board, there was a cross. And on the other side, it was the Nation of Islam, Lost-Found Nation of Islam flag, and it had letters on the corners, Freedom, justice, equality, and on the staff, Islam.
0:06:06 IWDM: Just be patient with me here.
0:06:07 S?: Yes Sir.
0:06:09 S?: Take your time.
0:06:15 IWDM: We learned to salute the flag of the Lost-Found Nation of Islam. It was first introduced to us under the leadership and authority of Professor W.D Fard or W. Fard Muhammad. The expression was, "Original Salute. Original Salute." In the temples, we saluted any brother of any rank who was on post, as we post him to relieve him and take his place on that post, right? He didn't have to be a lieutenant, captain or any rank. When we changed post, and salute him to take his place, we'd tell him, I mean we didn't tell him but we did it. The original salute, we gave it to him. Now in quotes, "The original salute," that's in quotations 'cause that's exactly how it was given to us. This original salute was given as a sign pointing to enlightenment. This is heavy stuff. You all don't know what you came into.
0:07:40 IWDM: When the police department found, charged Honorable Elijah Muhammad and put him in jail. Later the FBI came, raided the temples, raided homes and took the lessons, all the lessons and teachings. So they could study them to see how dangerous the Nation of Islam or the Lost-Found Nation of Islam or the holy temples of Islam were in these United States. I'm gonna tell you something later. I better tell you now. After studying those lessons, they executed the law on my father and all the rest of us for not accepting the draft and all the able men and many of the senior citizens who wouldn't even be inducted, or drafted into the army if they had just got a draft card.
0:08:50 IWDM: After the draft card, they were examined and they would have found them unfit or too old to go to war. But they didn't even accept to carry a draft card, they wouldn't get a draft card. So they went to jail. Old, middle aged, all of them, young went to jail. And Honorable Elijah Muhammad, then left in Chicago, he left us maybe with no more than about 30 or 35 members. Went down there almost. That's wrong. But they were very strong people. That 30 or few they were very strong people. And some of them are here right now. Some of them came out here to see me today. And I say it that way, see they came here, we belong to the community, he always talked about himself. That's because I am the community.
[applause]
0:09:51 IWDM: And I'm the whole community. You are just a part of it, but I'm the whole community. In my heart and in my head, is the whole community. And if I don't speak something to broaden and give a bigger life and bigger body to this community, it will get smaller and smaller. Because Allah had made me the depositor, to deposit in you all the seeds for a great people and a great community. Allahu Akbar. And I'm not bragging, I have no need for you to see me at all. I don't have any ego problem. No ego problem, I don't wanna show off, I don't wanna be seen. A reporter called, I'm not gonna identify the reporter or the newspaper. But I could tell from her language, she thought I was jealous of Farrakhan. How come this time you're having your Saviors Day observance near Farrakhan? That wasn't my doing, we looked for places. Raphael is here, he can tell you the places that we were looking for, we couldn't find anything but this place.
0:11:20 IWDM: It was the last intent, that we be in Regal, The Regal Theatre. Because we were taken from Africa and we were royal people. We had royal leaders, and we were a threat to the corruption that was building up on the continent of Africa for Muslims. And because we were a threat, armies captured us and sold us into slavery to get us away from Africa, so we wouldn't be in their hair. So we're at The Regal not because we wanna cause any problems for Minister Farrakhan, I never wanna cause any problem for Minister Farrakhan. I wanna free him from the darkness of the old language that has light in it, just like a piece of black coal that you put in the furnace have light in it, but you have to set it on fire for that light to come out.
0:12:35 IWDM: Now, I hope we don't have to go to hell and be set on fire to get that light out. I sure hope we don't have to do that. So we'll pray for Farrakhan, won't we? We pray for his good health, we pray he lives to see more light, so that the more light maybe give him the courage to come right up here and give me the original salute and say, "I'm turning over my post to you, Brother Warith."
[applause]
0:13:13 IWDM: That's what his teacher will be pleased with. Which one are you talking about? Both of them. Only one he got teaching from directly was from my father, Honorable Elijah Muhammad. But my father got his teaching from Master Fard. You call him a master? Yes, I call him a master, he was a master, a great master. He was a headmaster at a school in Fiji Islands. They called them headmaster then. He didn't have an ego problem either, right down to earth. He needed nothing for himself. That's why what he set up was not to get us to focus on him as a person, but to focus on him as the son of man. Son of man, you hear that?
0:14:06 S?: Yes sir.
0:14:07 IWDM: Son of man. He identified himself in his own teachings as the son of man. And they had no help until the coming of the son of man, in the person of W. Fard. That's the lesson. Is that not the lesson? You will know it.
0:14:22 S?: Yes, yes.
0:14:22 IWDM: Alright, okay. And Peter said... Pardon me, I'm sorry. Jesus Christ said... Peace be on him. He said to Peter, He said... This is Gospel. This is in the Gospel. He said, "Peter, who do you say I, the Son of Man, am?" What does that language tell you? If you are a student that seeks to find something lost or something missing in the darkness, if you're that kind of teacher, a seeker, student, what does that language say to you? Listen to it again. Peter... First He was addressing somebody, right? And that person is called Peter. If I say "the flame petered out," what does it mean?
0:15:23 S?: It died. It's gone.
0:15:24 IWDM: Yes. The principal of Chicago Junior College who was a Muslim in our association before and they appointed him to his position. Now he could help a lot of you students out with your vocabulary. If you say "the flame petered out," it meant it went out slowly. It didn't go out 'poof' like that. It went out slowly, just went out. And Jesus said of that Peter that He's addressing, He said, "Peter, before the rooster crows three times, you will have betrayed me." And then when you study what happened after Jesus got arrested and everything, you will see that he betrayed Him not only once but twice. He betrayed Him indirectly when he betrayed the principle of Jesus Christ. Principle of Jesus Christ, you don't respond to emotions and do violence. And he cut the ear off of a man. That's the Bible, Gospel.
0:16:37 IWDM: In a rage, he took his sword and cut a man's ear off. That wasn't Jesus Christ he was following. But the worst thing he did was when they came around asking, after they arrested Jesus Christ, they came around... Officers came around. They say, "This man, have anybody seen this man?" Peter said, "I don't know him." Said he didn't know him. And that's the head of the Christian society on this earth after Jesus Christ left. That's the one we're talking about. The head, the one who succeeded Him. [chuckle] Oh boy, I have some funny stuff to say. Just came to my mind all of a sudden like 'poof.' [laughter] But I can't do it. I'm in the Regal Theatre, Im'ma keep it regal. [laughter] I might share it with a couple of my close friends, it's too good to just keep it all to myself.
0:17:41 IWDM: Yes, so He said, "Who do you think I, the Son of Man, am?" So He made it very clear that the most important identity you should know me by is the Son of Man. Who do you say I, the Son of Man, am? Emphasise it. Am, emphasis on 'am.' That's my existence. That's me. That's my true person. I'm the Son of man, not the Son of G-d. Son of man. And it was Peter who introduced Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ never introduced Himself as the Son of G-d. It was Peter who introduced Jesus Christ as the Son of G-d. But he said, Yes, you are this, you are that. And he said this, "And the Son of G-d." That was his final word after answering Jesus Christ's question. He said, "And the Son of G-d."
0:18:49 IWDM: And where did Jesus Christ sit? On this rock, on this rock. And what does Allah say in the Quran about rock? He say don't put your seeds on a rock. And then a little light rain come down, it beat your seeds off the rock and you won't have anything. You lost everything. Don't invest your seeds in a rock. [chuckle] A rock is a very difficult thing.
0:19:23 IWDM: Now here in this mystical language, Peter, and this language is too difficult for people. If your child wants bread, this is the Bible. If your child wants bread, will you give him a rock? That's the Bible.
[pause]
0:20:00 IWDM: Well, that's too much. I'll be here too long. I have to pass some goodies. I'm gonna try to get 'em out on paper and tape some kinda that way and get all of this to you, soon, I hope. Within a month or so maybe. I'll have it published.
0:20:24 IWDM: Yes. Alright. So that enlightenment, that is in the original salute concerns our original nature, our inherent value, our innate dignity, and worth that Allah put into us and deposited to us when he created us. Oh, yes. Now, the founding fathers who planned the plan of the ideology that would give us a great nation and a direction for our life as a great nation, they got this language, this understanding, and they used it and have profited from... From it, through their generations. From that time 'til now. And what is that language? We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal and endow with certain unalienable rights, among these, life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
0:21:54 IWDM: That's the language. That's the language that gives us our equality as citizens of the United States. That language gives us our equality and our rights to equally be recognized in these United States. And if we are unequal, we have the right to have representatives to represent us in Washington. Hear me?
0:22:25 S?: That's right.
0:22:26 IWDM: Yes! Because we deserve these rights whether we understand them or not. If we don't understand them or we can't appreciate or know the value that is being addressed to you, the common person, then we have representatives that have that knowledge. And they will help us defend our rights, even if they have to go to Washington. In fact, they are our representatives in Washington. In the United States of... Our freedom is expressed as four freedoms. Did you know that? Four freedoms. It has a lot to do with scripture. Four freedoms. To save time, we will not dwell on this. However, some comments are necessary for this occasion.
0:23:31 IWDM: By simply quoting from scripture, we may answer this need. There were dead bones remaining from the bodies of those who died. The prophet Ezekiel was instructed in these words: "Son of man. Call on these four winds to blow on these dry bones." The holy bible, that's where I got this quote from. Been familiar with it from the time when I used to sit with my feet dangling from... My legs dangling from the seat listening to the ministers, not always my father. To the ministers before my father even came out of prison. I was listening to the ministers. One was called Big Red. Sultan Muhammad from Milwaukee.
0:24:21 IWDM: Yes. Later on, we got another Big Red, I wasn't talking about him. I know Malcolm X was also called Big Red at one time. Yes. And I would hear them speaking and using the terms. And I remember them teaching on the dry bones. See, the child is attracted to figure language. Graphic, graphic descriptions. A child is readily attracted to that. So that's what stuck with me. These dry bones, you know? And the minister said that Ezekiel said that... Ezekiel was told: "Son of man. Call on the four winds and have them blow on these dry bones." And the minister would say, the minister completing the story he would say, "And the bones start coming together."
0:25:09 IWDM: And I was only a little child, but I had a sense... I had the sense to know that he was telling us a story about ourselves. That really, what he was addressing was the audience, us. So when he said, "The bones started coming... " In my mind, as a little child, I doubt if I was eight years old. I think I was like six or seven years old, maybe, or maybe even five. In my mind, the minister was asked... Was telling us that we should come together. I didn't think he meant bone. I had enough sense as a little child to know that he didn't mean no dead bone. I saw bones on the street that dogs left. I know those things wouldn't be... Nobody would be out there and tell, "Call bones, bone, bone."
[laughter]
0:25:58 IWDM: I have enough sense to know better that that, as a child. Now how come you guys 35, 45, and 55 years old, when I'm talking to you, you can't come out of that concrete language to follow me into the promised land? Huh? Where we can have the future that we were promised? How come you have difficulty? When I was just a five-year-old kid, a five or six-year-old kid, and I understand that the man didn't mean some G-ddamn fly dog bones or something on the street. I had enough sense. Now look at him, see, he's not qualified, G-ddamn.
[laughter]
0:26:36 IWDM: Well, G-O-D damn. If that... If that's... If that goes a little better with you. If you understand the question G-ddamn, it means G-d damn, whoever it's talking about. G-d destroy. Do away with this. Well, now we go to... Now the focus here... We're gonna focus a little bit differently now. Nation of Islam, you know I practice the saluting the flag, Sun, Moon and Stars. Has a reference also to our common human essence of... And its sacred worth. The real human contents in everybody. That they come to separate from. They separate from their own essential nature. And follow the ways of a crazy world. And lose contact with their human essence. But they always have it. All of us, I don't care how bad you are, how strayed you are or how much you've gotten into corruption and crime and went to jail, for years and years and repeatedly go back to jail. I don't care how bad you are in your behavior and in your mind and in your emotions or in your emotional makeup.
0:28:05 IWDM: In you is always the precious human essence, that Allah deposited into our creation. And that's what qualify us to become sons of Adam. And to have it said of all of us irrespective of our colors, our complexions, our nation, nationality. To have it said of us. And he made all the sons of Adam honorable. That's Allah in the Quran. Known. Unknown. Everyone, this is what Fard said. Said we have 17 million... And he said, Elijah Muhammad repeated, we intend to get every one of them. How come some of you Imams think Islam is just for those who have already become Muslims? How come you aren't interested in inviting non-Muslims to come in and observe and be taught? Islam, so that they don't have a choice. Even though Christians, never had a choice unless they're talking about isolated incidents.
0:29:35 IWDM: While some Christians, before Islam came in here, ran into some Muslims somewhere. And perhaps heard of Islam, got interested in it, and converted to Islam. That's very rare. All of us who have Christianity, we were given Christianity as slaves or as slaves... Or as people right out of slavery. And we did not have any knowledge of Islam. We didn't know about Islam. Nothing about Islam. So did we have a choice? Were we ever given a choice to choose between Christianity and our inheritance? Islam is our natural inheritance. Many of us we have proof we came from Islam.
0:30:25 IWDM: And when they brought Christians into America as slaves and concerned Christians found it out, they went and protested to the government. And told the government that we cannot accept that a Christian be enslaved. And from that time they were not supposed to bring any more Christians into this country and they weren't bringing but a few... Every now and then were coming in. Just very few. And they probably was so retarded, they couldn't even tell them or tell everybody else... "What's your religion?"
[vocalization]
0:31:01 IWDM: Said, "What's your religion?"
[vocalization]
0:31:10 IWDM: So for justice to come to us, we have to have the opportunity to have somebody introduce Islam to us. And help us make a decision now in this time whether we will remain Christian or accept our natural inheritance. Allah says to us, "They ask... " Speaking to the prophet, "They asked you about the moon. It is for calculating time as a time marker." That's the Quran. He didn't say, "It's the Moon of the original man. The Black man." There's a time marker. It tells you when the new month coming. And when it becomes a half-moon that's one week. Full-moon, two weeks.
0:32:27 IWDM: And then the next two weeks, it's disappearing. Third week, another quarter of it gone. Fourth week, it's all gone. And you have to wait a day and half or so for another new moon to appear. Brother... Put your feet in 40 degree angle on that post. The lieutenant or officer came back and caught you standing up there pinky-toed or something.
[laughter]
0:33:04 IWDM: Brother, stand up, put those feet at a 45 degree angle. Now a 45 degree angle, we're talking about a square or a block that we live on. Like a slave block we were sold on. We're talking about that neighborhood block. One corner is 45 degrees. Now, if you're gonna put men on the posts for that block, to protect that block, you put one man on each corner. So 45 on each corner, four times 45 is 360, isn't it? Or 180, pardon me. No, no. No, no. 40... 45 and 45 is 90. He's right. He told us right. 180. 180. Right? 180 degrees, that's called a straight angle, isn't it?
0:34:07 S?: That's right.
0:34:09 IWDM: A straight angle. [chuckle] Called a straight angle. 180 degrees, called a straight angle. Now, yes, 45 and 45 is 90. That's half of it. 90 and 90 is 180. Imam, straightened it out.
[laughter]
0:34:32 IWDM: If he speak again on this, please officer hear him and take him out of here, please.
[laughter]
0:34:44 IWDM: If you can't do it, call 911.
[laughter]
0:34:48 IWDM: 911.
[laughter]
0:34:56 IWDM: So, you were told to be able to man your own corner. That's what it means. You have to man your own corner. Your own corner is very important. Where is the black stone? In the corner. You all ain't quick enough. Are you eating poisoned animal that silence the mental power of a person? I know you ain't eating. Yes, you might be eating poisoned animal. You think you actually have to eat the flesh of a physical pig to be eating poison animal? Mr Fard ain't talking about physical, that's not where he stops. That's where he starts. That's not his point.
0:35:39 IWDM: His point is, don't eat filth. Don't eat corruption. Don't be nasty, like a pig that would get into his food and wallow in his own food with his whole body. Don't be piggish. That's what... More important than not eating a piece of pig. You are old. ... and he didn't know what was in there." But the brother been selling drugs and you never pulled his coat. He's corrupting the neighborhood. He's corrupting the African-American people, but you won't stop him. He's a nasty pig of the worst type. And you all say, forbid that you embrace him. Don't touch him. But don't touch that pig man, he ain't nothing but... You ain't even supposed to touch his body... Don't touch him, touch his cars.
[pause]
0:37:01 IWDM: Yes, and we know the story of Ezekiel about those bones as a result they started moving toward one another, collecting themselves together in the form of a human being. So that's the process that's building or edifying the soul of a human person. Putting it in some kind of logical order, when it was all confused before. So that it'll be able to hold up this sensitive form of a human being, the flesh. You don't have a bone, you don't have... You don't have bones in that right order, you have no frame or no structure for me to be on, to present a picture of a human person.
0:37:54 IWDM: And you can't receive the breath of life when you're only bones. You have to become flesh and have human sensitivities, like the flesh is sensitive to the little touch. It's like a little thing that you can't even see, can fly on your flesh, your exposed arm or something, or on your face. And nobody can see it. It's so small, you can't see it, but you feel it. You say, "Something's on my face." Skin made very, very sensitive. We know we can become overly sensitive and ruin ourselves and our life. But without sensitivities, you're dead. Without human sensitivities, you're not even a human. No, you're not.
0:38:47 IWDM: So when we are flesh, we come from our mothers and we can receive the breath of life. And Allah says and also in the Quran, "All the living things have their needs provided for in four measures. Four measures." There again, that 45 degree angle. In four measures. And Ezekiel say he saw a wheel going up from the earth and it had four living creatures on it. Four. Four living creatures on it. He said, and wherever the wheel went, the people on earth were influenced to go in that direction. Wherever the wheel went. This is the science or the psychology of human behavior, giving in a figure called the mother-plane or the mothership. It is saying that it... If you have this science, you can control and guide the behavior of human beings on earth.
0:39:57 IWDM: And we have a science over our heads all the time. A science, over our head all the time. And we're saved by those who know how to use that science for our own benefit. You hear what I said? We're saved down here on earth by those who are above us. High above us in knowledge and understanding and wisdom and science, and they know how to change the climates down here on earth and our culture. Cultural climates. They know how to change the climates in our culture to address another corner on the square... Or of the square. Or another season. You know the seasons are important too. Or another season in the make up of human nature. They know how to address it and bring that season out.
0:40:57 IWDM: So they can take us from winter to spring. They can take us from summer to fall. They can take us from summer to winter. Oh they can manipulate the seasons. Yes. Now we know, that once they let African-Americans or the black people over here on this continent get into a sport called boxing, we dominated it. And fighters are always put in opposite corners, aren't they?
0:41:51 IWDM: And as one corner challenge another corner represented by a fighter who had been recognized and another one fighting to be recognized, a contender or two of the same equal ranking. It doesn't matter, but they are fighting to see which one gonna be the best and be regarded as the best. And in the scripture, what it said and that stone of the corner was rejected. Rejected. Both G-d and time made the rejected stone again the corner of the building. The corner of the building. Now in masonry... See this is addressing masonry. Construction. You don't have to get four corners to start building or start planning the design for a structure. If it's going to be a square, all you need is one corner.
0:43:17 IWDM: You make one corner. Draw it or etch it into the ground where you're gonna build. Make one corner a perfect 45 degree angle then you can take the lines that go off on the angle and go to the distance you want to carry it to make the wall the longer you... As long as you... The length you want it to be, and then you don't have to do anything but square the next corner from that line. Put the square right on that line. So one corner gets you three more.
0:44:00 IWDM: And in baseball, how many bases? Four. And if you hit the ball hard enough, you can send that ball far enough that no outfielder can get it. One hit from your position, on one corner, on home plate is going to do, because the... The baseball diamond in a square, isn't it? Yes. So if you hit that ball and manage to get it past all of the blockers out there... You can walk from home... If you hit it good enough, you don't have to run. But you run because you're excited. You run to keep the... Every... Everybody in the bleachers happy. You know? Some... I've seen guys hit the home run though... I've seen the batter hit the home run and walk.
[laughter]
0:44:57 IWDM: He knew he had it. He knew it wasn't coming back, so he just took his time walked all around the bases.
[laughter]
0:45:13 IWDM: So if you have one measure, he gave every creature his provide... His provision of what he needed for his provision in four measures. If you just have one measure, you have a chance to get the whole house. If you just have one measure. You got a chance to get the whole house. That's what that language is saying. So when Mr. Fard was putting you on post and told you to stand at a 45 degree angle... He was coming from that knowledge. That if I just can stand them up on one corner, in time they will have the whole house. But that ain't in the future anymore. G-d has given me the light and understanding. We can have the whole house.
0:46:12 S?: Yes sir.
[applause]
0:46:19 IWDM: Praise be to Allah.
0:46:25 IWDM: Saluting this flag is saluting our original common work. A sign of equality is a young moon or baby moon. In many cultures of the world, the moon as a symbol is used to calculate months for one year. We still use it in an Islamic calender. The growing of the moon is by phases, each being approximately seven days, or one week. There are seven above you Allah says in the Quran, and a like number in yourselves. That's the Holy Quran. That's the word of G-d. Considering that this symbol represents a growing or a waxing phase, followed by a diminishing or waning phase, it is expressing an urge to reach out, to come full circle, 360 degrees, but you can't come full circle, you have to have a straight angle first. You have to come 180 degrees first and then you have to die to your mind. In order to see on the other side of the moon.
0:47:37 S?: Yes, sir.
0:47:37 IWDM: And you ain't gonna see on the other side of it, really. You therefore have the same side come back and present itself again. And you have to wait till it reach completion. So you have to stop at 1975. You have to stop, take a rest for a day or so and see Imam W. D Muhammad's intelligence shining in the sky for a new moon. That's going to bring you into the understanding that will make you again die, and when you die again for that second time, die to what you didn't understand... And follow the Quran strictly.
0:48:19 S?: Yes, sir.
0:48:20 IWDM: Oh buddy, then you're going to have the sun. And you're going to be able to do what Joshua did. You're gonna make the sun stand still. And we will have no rising and falling anymore.
[vocalization]
0:48:38 IWDM: Now what is a sign is a symbol of freedom. You will have freedom, you won't rise and fall anymore, you'll be like Joshua. You'll be able to command the sun and stand still at noon day.
[background conversation]
0:49:04 IWDM: Considering that this symbol represents a growing or waxing phase, followed by a diminishing waning phase, is expressing an urge to reach out, to come full circle, to reach completion, perfection, 360 degrees. Isn't that what we were told? Stay in the circle. Just stay in the circle. Isn't that what we were taught? Oh yeah.
[pause]
0:49:48 IWDM: In English-speaking America, in the average month, there are four weeks. The growing phase of the moon represents 14 days, a sheet have 14 square inches, 14 days. Valentines is February 14. Fourteen, very important in scriptural language and in cultural language, very important. To come full circle, the moon comes halfway, actually gives us two weeks that's half of a month. Not the full distance of a month. One half of the moon is only one week. Two weeks is a full moon. The fifth and the sixth day, give us a weekend. That's Friday and Saturday for us. That's the weekend. Weekend is spelled W-E-E-K. But it is an allusion to W-E-A-K. Weak not firm. See when you working, you're firm. When you get off of work on Friday and go to enjoy the weekend, you are weak. And that's most Americans. They're weak because they're wasting their labor, wasting their hard-earned-money on whiskey, women and fun huh?
[pause]
0:51:29 IWDM: Now it ain't women, it might be waiting on a boy, a male. A freakish, freakish time we've come into. Where women boldly in the public act sexually with each other. And I guess that's done shamed these homosexuals so much, we can't even see them out here anymore.
[laughter]
0:51:53 IWDM: I guess they say "Oh hell man, we can't get no attention. The women done took it all."
0:52:09 IWDM: Without further exploring the moon as a scriptural symbol. The following captures W. D Fard's symbolism for revealing his own person. This symbol representing a sighting of the new moon, beginning a new month of four weeks can be closed in by a vertical line forming a capital letter or a high-case D. The letter D.
[pause]
0:52:45 IWDM: In the English alphabet, by the way, this D is the forth letter A, B, C, D. 1, 2, 3, 4. Oh, you know that sound, don't you brothers? 1, 2, 3, 4, 1, 2, 3, 4. Hup! Hup! Right? So you don't have to keep saying, once they get you in the groove, they don't even have to give you the command language. Hup! Hup! Hup! Hup! And that's the way this culture is. First it's educating you. And after they educate you to follow, the behavior it wants you to follow, then all they have to do is keep up the beat. Keep up the beat and after a while, you marching right up the hill. Hup! Hup! Hup!
[chuckle]
0:53:48 IWDM: I'm telling you what is true and exact. You don't have to take it, you don't have to believe it. I wouldn't want to obligate you, to do what you don't wanna to do. That's not even Islam, it can't do it. No compelling people or forcing people in Islam; that's the Quran. But I was given the name W. D. What is W? To use. So this son of Clara Muhammad... What is Clara? Clear. From Clara, you can get the word, clairvoyant.
0:54:36 IWDM: From "Clair", you can get the name... The word, clairvoyant. What does clairvoyant mean? You have a psyche that can sense what other people can't sense with their brains. You can see the future maybe. You can see what is hidden. Huh? That other people don't have power to see. You become a psychic. You have psychic powers above what the ordinary person have. You are a clairvoyant.
0:55:12 IWDM: It ain't no accident that my mother's Clara. And look up the word "Evans." Well, how could I have found all of this to give you, if it wasn't put in G-d's plan? Impossible. Look up the word "Evans." My mother's maiden name was "Evans." It is rich with understanding and light on my birth. Both names. Then look at my father's name, Elijah. The name of a great prophet. I've heard some of us say, "Oh, he wasn't born by that name, his name was Robert." You borrowin' something from anybody else. You don't know if they're down in hell or not, but you can just take what you heard somebody else said, "His name was Robert." My father's name was never Robert. He was born Elijah, from birth, from a child, in the womb of his mother. Elijah Poole was his name. He had no other name. So let's look at Elijah.
0:56:18 IWDM: If you are worth talking about, your mistreatment, you're being taken away from your lifeline as a people... That's what happened. When you were born in slavery... The children was separating from the parents, if the parents were trying to keep them from some understanding or some knowledge of where they came from, the slave master would take those children from that mother and sell 'em to another slave master or put them somewhere else, so a mother couldn't even get near her own children.
0:56:51 IWDM: So that's how we were raised. To make sure we have no way of connecting back with the mothers we had or the life we had before. So we lost our lifeline as a people. Slavery took our lifeline as a people away from us. So in the Lost-Found memory of the Nation of Islam, you should really understand that language in it's true value, it has value for shining light on our lifeline. It is saying that we were Muslims once, in our past. And we were taken away from a Muslim lifeline so we lost that lifeline, and then we were raised, intentionally raised, without a knowledge of our past, without a way to get back to it.
0:57:47 IWDM: Oh, I thought we were through with that. He should just stick with the Sunnah. He should just stick with the Quran and the Sunnah. I wish you knew what the Quran and the Sunnah was, you wouldn't have any problem with me.
[vocalization]
0:58:19 IWDM: What I've said to you is enough... You shouldn't be stopping. But that was Moses' people wasn't there? They climbed the hill to the promised land, they tried to follow direction that G-d has given them and at every new turn, Moses had to be annoyed, questioned unnecessarily... And G-d says, "Slay this heifer." "We don't know what you're talking about Moses. Explain to us what is this heifer." "Oh, we still don't understand, Moses. Tell us more." So when he said that it was a yellow heifer; yellow, the color of gold. "Now you have come to us with the clear truth. We understand what you're talking about now."
0:59:27 IWDM: Now most of us are gonna agree to that command. That order you got from G-d. "I'm gonna slay our yellow heifer." Some of us won't go along with, this is what Allah says in the Quran, "And then when they did it but didn't have the desire in their hearts for it." They were forced to do it but their hearts were not agreeing with what they were doing, so they reverted right back. Scripture says that, Bible and Quran, "They reverted right back to what they were doing before."
1:00:00 IWDM: Now, you looking for... I remember when one time a silly man that know he told them I told you brother. I remember even one time they built a golden calf. That's because you don't know what a golden calf is. When they have moral interest and moral obedience and scriptural obedience to G-d and they left it for love, to build love. They went right back to building that golden calf. That golden calf was built many times in the history of those people.
1:00:57 IWDM: And when honorable Elijah Muhammad left, you all said, "Build for us a golden calf." We ain't listening to that Imam Wallace D. Muhammad. We don't want him. He's dead, he doesn't excite us. He was just fat and dead. Okay, Aaron, build for us a golden calf. You know what we want. Aaron came out in his chinchilla and his sparkling rings and everything and he satisfied you all. You all built the golden calf.
1:01:52 IWDM: And now some of you waking up. Allah says, "Yes, there were two men living jointly, side by side. One land touched the other man's land. And one man was so proud of his success with his land and he was a man who devoted himself to just wealth. Just building wealth. The other man was a G-dly man and he didn't progress. His farm seemed to... His land seemed to be not growing, not impressive. So the man who was impressive, he said to the other man 'I got more wealth than you. I'm more successful than you are. Don't you wanna come on back to the good old days and leave that religion, whatever you got. Or leave that leader you got alone. Forget about that Wallace D. Mohammed. Let's go back to the good old days.'"
1:03:01 IWDM: And the time came like it came for Job. Huh? The time came and the man's land start drying up. And the water started increasing on the land of his neighbor that he had put down. [chuckle] That's what's happening right now. See, you all are looking too far in the future. Allah says of the resurrection, he says, "And the resurrection is now. Today," he says. "And the resurrection is today but they're not situated... " That's in the Quran. You walk with me, you'd have nothing to fear.
[vocalization]
1:03:57 IWDM: And one of the four freedoms, there's freedom from fear. No, let me... Try to rush, hurry up with this. What time is it?
[background conversation]
1:04:09 IWDM: I got it, I got it. Yes, I'm gonna have to speed up. It's so difficult for me to be travelling with my presentation and run into goodies and not celebrating. But that takes up a lot of time so I'm gonna try to go on. It's very difficult. I'm gonna try my best before doing that to complete this. Our spiritual life in the scripture and also in our common language is represented by birds or bird life. We say, "Birds of a feather flock together." Now, we're not talking about no real birds, we're talking about ourselves. Birds of a feather flock together. And without feathers, the bird can't get up off the ground unless he hop up and fall right back down. He needs feathers to fly.
1:05:11 IWDM: And that's why in scripture, the human hair is associated with the spiritual ability. Spiritual ability. So Delilah, she used the seven locks of hair off of Samson in the story, metaphorical story, and Samson lost his strength. And the nation of Delilah, the Philistines, were able to capture the strong man Samson. Yes. And the Indians in America, when they were fighting with the settlers, the settlers were afraid more of having their scalps taken off than being actually killed. Some of the Indians believed that the hair was the soul, ability to rise up and fly away like a bird. And the soul is described in scripture as a bird, yes.
1:06:24 IWDM: All of these things can help wisen you up and give you the ability to read and get substance from reading, and not just read and getting nothing. Come away the same old, dumb person you were, when you started reading. It hurts my heart... And we don't need all of you. All we need is just a few, like these Imams back here. And if they are as generous as I am, then maybe we will be raised up in knowledge. Eventually, you become wiser and wiser, more knowledgeable, more knowledgeable. And you who don't have a interest in that at all, that kind of language, to give your attention to it... And remember, the command is what? What is the first command? Attention. Oh, you can't go nowhere if you can't be attentive. If you can't be attentive, give your attention to something important, you ain't going nowhere.
1:07:33 IWDM: So anyway, we don't need everybody, you just need a few. Margaret Mead said, "A few devoted and determined persons can get together and change the world." Then she follows it up with these words, she said, "And not only can they do it, that's the only way it's ever been done... It has ever been done." That's what she said and she's correct. If we just had a few, and we got a few, and in time we're gonna get what we want but I want more of you all to wake up. If we describe the African-American life or spirit today in America, we have to say that our spirit is gone. We are a people who have lost our spirit as a people to fun-making and foolishness and killing each other, robbing each other and drugging each other. Yes. So the black African-American spirit of black America... It's a thing gone, it's dead. It's gone astray. It's really the spirit of a people in Hell.
[vocalization]
1:09:01 IWDM: The social life represented by the spirit is in an expression and it's called, "Johnny." And the expression goes like this, it says, "All work and no play makes Johnny a dull boy." Well, we buy that. We know that. But the Devil, he is setting Johnny up for a life of play, of fun and play... Setting him up for it. He whispers into the souls of and the hearts of people. So when he says, "All work and no play makes Johnny a dull boy," he is working on your feelings and he know that that's gonna be resounded in your soul. Not in your mind, but that's gonna ring a bell in your soul and you gonna say, "Well, hell. I ain't going to work today." And you don't know what's lurking inside you and your wife doesn't even know. She say, "I'm gonna have to get rid of this nigga."
[laughter]
1:10:20 IWDM: "I thought I married a man that wanted to work and have a strong family." And she ain't gonna tell you that, but she start looking prettier. She start bringing her weight down. And you think she doing this for you. She getting ready to change men.
[laughter]
1:10:43 IWDM: I know that 'cause one of those sweet things came to me and I couldn't resist her.
[laughter]
1:10:58 IWDM: Getting back to that D, he gave me the name "W. D" W. D, and if you look at "D," "D" looks like two "V's" depending on how you write it, it can look like to "V's" touching each other. Victory in the first, victory in the seventh... In the second, pardon me. Victory in the first, victory in the second. Then if you write it another way, it becomes two "U." See, if G-d gives you a sign, you can look at it from all angles and from all angles, it should speak the same message that G-d is trying to give you.
1:11:41 IWDM: So if you write the "D" in another way... I mean, the "W" in another way, it's two "U's." It's two "U's." And what did Christ say to Davis, the rich man? He wanted to know how could he get into heaven and Christ in the gospel says, "You have to be born again." And the rich man said, "How am I to go back into my mother, my mother's womb?" And Jesus Christ said, "Nevertheless, you have to be born again." When you're born, you've been born once. That's one you, that's you, the rich man, under the influence of wealth. Now you have to be born again and become the second you, the you that's born under the Spirit of G-d... Are born under the authority of G-d, under the rule of G-d, and you follow the Spirit of G-d." Follow in the Spirit. "And you can have the new life and you can have the Heavens. That's the way you get into Heavens."
1:12:48 IWDM: So, here I have a "W," Mr. Fard had a "W," and you can get two "Vs." You can see two "V's" and you can see two "U's." Powerful symbol, W. Powerful symbol for Scripture, understanding. And then you come to the D... The D, capital D... It looks like a half-moon, right? Like a half-moon. But when you're just writing it, some people write a little sloppy. It can look like a new moon, or quarter moon... Maybe a nice capital D high case 'd' letter 'd', it's a half moon, if you put them back to back, you get a full moon.
1:13:41 IWDM: Now if you have been following me, this is not nonsense, this is not dull, it's exciting. For those who are awake up here, and have the good hearts, it's exciting, very exciting, you'd be surprised how many times I make sajdah, when I'm working at putting my language together to give it to you, and Allah blessed me to see the light inside the gross-matter darkness, inside the darkness. Sometimes it's so powerful I have to stop, sometimes tears running down my cheeks, and I stop and make sajdah on the floor. I have to. I can't resist it. Yes, and look where he came, he came to a city called Detroit. What is another name for that city? The motor city. And if we say you have motor behaviour, what are we saying? We say African-Americans have motor behavior, now will you agree with me...
1:15:15 IWDM: Principal, teacher, doctor, and president. Would you agree with me that our behavior, in the streets is mostly motor behavior? You hear, I got a witness, he's qualified, he said yes. Motor behavior, motor behavior it just ignores the brain, it ignores the reasoning power, it ignores your ability to reason, and decide whether this behavior is good or bad or gonna take me out of my family and let me lose my wife and family, and get me to hell or not. You don't think, so motor behaviour doesn't require thinking, and what the dude gonna say, "We will progress in the manner that we are willing to teach our children to think." Not just act without thinking. What did Mr Fard said? He said "Think five times before you speak, and maybe you'll be incorrect," he emphasized thinking.
1:16:28 IWDM: So Mr. Fard chose the motor city, to start his first temple, and temple means what? On time. Regulated by time, temple, something regulated by time. And the last great speech of Honorable Elijah Muhammad was what? The theology of time. The theology of time. All of these signs for us to see, and understand and follow direction, the direction that the new language gives us, the new language gives us, and in the beginning it was the word, word is language, and the word was from G-d, and it was G-d.
1:17:31 IWDM: I can start telling right now, the Quran is a word, and this Quran was with Allah, and this Quran is Allah, in his expression to man. Am I more important to you as so much on the physical scale of flesh, biological flesh, am I important to you as that, or am I important to you as a special kind of spirit and soul and as a special kind of human heart, and as a special kind of mind for holding to G-d? Huh? That's where my worth is, not in my physical flesh, so in the beginning there was a word, and the word converted men's hearts and minds, and dwelled in their flesh and dwelled in their flesh.
[vocalization]
1:18:50 IWDM: You have to be unspooked, because the spook ain't helping you anymore. You have forgot about the spook, and you destroying yourselves. So I have a W, and the W says, WD, WD. So double, putting double before D, it suggests that two U's, but it also suggests that the D is two, it's though it's one, it's performing as two, yes.
1:19:46 IWDM: Mr. Fard simply referred to himself as Wallace D, many times on postcards that he mailed to my mother when he left the United States and went to Mexico, but even while he was yet in the United States, he sent postcards to my mother, my uncle Kalad, and to my father. And I've seen those postcards, maybe not all of them, but I think maybe I've seen all of them. One could've gotten by or not presented to me before they died. My sister too, she has some postcards that she kept in her possession. They didn't throw them away. Isn't that the will of G-d? You know people get postcards and they just throw them away, don't they? They read them and throw them away, but they had enough sense to know that this man was very special and they shouldn't throw anything away that he had his name, he signed it, what his words are, what he signed his name to. They kept them. I'm trying to go through this to save time.
1:20:44 IWDM: Do you know there's a Sister Vonada? She was from Detroit, the motor city, and she lived to see a 103 years old among us. And at a 102, I was invited to a area, speaking to the believers, and who came up and greeted me, Sister Vonada. She was active up until her last months of her life. Yes, and she was the one that saw Mr. Fard, Professor Fard, face to face and had conversations with him, knew him personally. And you know what she called me when she see me? My baby or My boy. She would say my boy, sometimes she would say my baby, and she would say my baby, she'd say, "You know, I used to hold you in my arms and comfort you, while your mother was busy doing something?" I'd say "No, I didn't know it," I said, "but thank you."
1:22:05 IWDM: Now, in the Quran, Allah says eight bears the throne, means supports the throne. And what is the throne? The rule. The rule. It means the government, the office that manages the affairs for the whole. The office that manage the affairs for the whole. An eight holds up the throne. Now, what is this talking about? Do you know the flag... The star in the flag, pardon me, of The Maghreb? Do you know what the name Maghreb means? Some of you do. The Maghreb means West, right? But when you say Maghreb, you're talking about Morocco and that area of Africa that have converted to Islam.
1:23:00 IWDM: It is called The Maghreb. Africa is actually The Maghreb. Morocco is actually The Maghreb. The Maghreb... And you know where Maghreb comes from? It comes from a bird, Corvus. The bird is Corvus, and Corvus is a crow. A crow. What color is a crow?
1:23:26 S?: Black.
1:23:27 IWDM: Yes. And when the earth was all condemned, and the great floods came and covered the whole earth. G-d had prepared Noah, upon him be peace, to survive that great day of loss and destruction. He instructed him to build the great boat called the Ark, and he managed to survive with the people he could save, even animals. Until the rain stopped, water subsided, went down, and when the water went down and he could see the land again, the ship, the Ark, was resting on a mountain. The mountain called Mount Ararat. And he sent a crow out to test the area, the environment. The crow didn't come back.
1:25:02 IWDM: Why? Because the crow is a creature of survival behavior, survival nature, survival instincts. His life is more descriptive of that than something different, something other than that. So he decided to send a dove out, like a pigeon. He decided to send a dove out. He sent the dove, the dove was a messager bird. The crow is a bird that hunts for himself, seeks to survive; but the dove, a play on love, D-O-V-E, play on love... This other creature is moved and motivated by survival instinct. All he wants to do is hunt food, that's his life, just hunting food.
1:26:04 IWDM: But here is another bird. His life is a life of affection among his kind. They show affection to each other. They show a lot of love for each other, and they like the environment of men, of people. They hang around people and they can be trained to carry messages, and be trusted to come back after delivering the message. To bring back another message from the person you sent the message.
1:26:41 IWDM: It was like the post office working, huh? Yeah, mail carriers. Birds. So he sent the dove out and the dove came back. Dove came back with the piece of olive branch in his mouth to say it's safe out there. Took it as a sign that the land was peaceable and you can come out, not be afraid. So they repopulated the world, that's how the world was repopulated, so we're told.
[pause]
1:27:46 IWDM: In chapter 33 of the Quran, Allah says, We indeed... Pardon me, "We indeed offered the trust to the heavens and the earth, and the mountains, but they refused to undertake it. Being afraid thereof, but man undertook it. He was indeed cocky and foolish." Too jumpy, too quick to jump to a conclusion, and foolish. Also from the Quran, Allah says, "He punishes whomsoever he wills, and he grants mercy to whomsoever he wills, and upon your hearts to Him, you all are bound to come." And I'm gonna close this out here.
1:28:39 IWDM: The second coming of Jesus Christ has been fulfilled by the presence, the presence of this book. "In the beginning there was the word, and Jesus Christ said, if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you." He was the Word, Word of G-d, so the word of G-d comes back into the world. So the second coming of Jesus Christ is this Quran. To the world that I'm in the world, I'm the light of the world. You forget this Quran, you lose your light. You lose contact with this Quran, your lights go out in your community. Your lights go out in the world.
1:29:27 IWDM: Allah-hu Akbar. Also from the Quran, "He punishes whomsoever he wills and he gives mercy to whomsoever he wills." So I concluded with that and please, treasure what G-d bless us with. As-Salaam-Alaikum.
1:29:48 S?: Walaikum Salam.
[applause]
1:30:36 S2: Dear believers, if you care to hold your seats Imam Muhammed will return to the mic shortly. Thank you. And... Well, while we're waiting you were passed envelopes so if you... In terms of a Saviours' Day gift, if you'd make your checks payable to Imam W. D Muhammed, Saviours' Day gift. Thank you so much.
[background conversation]
1:31:35 S2: Yes, a note to the people that's in Louisiana, New Orleans, and in the area. The sun's planning to rise in New Orleans one more time. March, April by the 1st of April prime time. For you that's there, be on the look out for Ibrahim W. D Muhammed, primetime April, first Sunday in April. What else? A few other places that's in development, but give them your support in those areas...
1:32:20 IWDM: It only gonna take about two or three minutes but I didn't want to leave them hanging what I thought to say to you about Noah, the great flood. There are signs in that story to help us all understand, how we are to constitute our life, for success in the community. And Jesus Christ is a great sign, I'm gonna rush through it because we don't have time. Inshallah, I'll be able to complete with my writings and put it in a booklet or book form for you and you'll get it Inshallah soon. But just to quickly go over these things, it's important for me to do since I have touched your senses already and I should not leave your senses that are ready now for the rest of that.
1:33:28 IWDM: So Jonah is the sign, great sign. Noah pardon me is even before is a great sign, Jonah is a great sign, and Jesus Christ is a great sign, and Jesus Christ becomes a sign that's associated with the story of Jonah and with the story of Noah. So as it was in the day of Noah so shall it be in the days of the Son of man, the coming of the Son of man. This is the Christ connecting the two. And it says also as Jonah was in the belly of the big fish or the whale three days and three nights, so shall the son of man be in the heart, H-E-A-R-T, in the heart of the earth, in the heart of the earth. So what are they saying to us? Says if you look for him in the secret chambers, he won't be there. If you look for him in the higher places, he won't be there, they tell the story of Jonah.
1:34:43 IWDM: The Son of man be in the heart of the earth, three days and three nights. So Easter is celebrated, Good Friday is celebrated, Christmas is celebrated. And Christmas... Good Friday pardon me, is the first day, and that's the best day of the week, a best day of the week in Islam. Jummah day, Friday, that's what the prophet said, I am giving you his words.
1:35:14 IWDM: So the Good Friday comes, supposed to be the day he died, right? And then you have to wait for the second day and nothing gonna happen, but on the third day, the resurrection, the resurrection. Now, when Jonah was swallowed by the big fish and cast out on the seashore, on the sand, barren land producing nothing, his destiny, his calling is to produce, and isn't that what the Nation of Islam FYI is all about? When you say it's a fruit, means you are to produce. You're called to be producers, fruit of Islam for Islam.
1:36:08 IWDM: And so, when he was put out on the seashore after going through terrible ordeals, what did Jonah say to himself? He say "I have a three-day journey," the exact words of the Bible, "I have a three day journey." Now I would be actually a dumb student not to connect what Jonah says with Jesus being Jesus coming back being a likeness of Jonah. The Bible makes the connection. Now I have the connection, now I'm gonna have to be foolish or stupid not to associate one two three coming out of the mouth of Jonah with one two three for the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
1:37:06 IWDM: Yeah, so this is the human essence in all of us. Allah has created all of us with the human essence to wake up to one thing, to wake up to his calling and sense in your own self that you ain't fulfilling what you were put on this earth to do. You're not producing, you are not achieving. So it burdens the soul. So don't be mystified so much by Jesus Christ, and scripture. It ain't talking about anything but Jes pronounced J-E-S. Pronounce it loudly, I gotta hear it loud. Hear it loud.
[vocalization]
1:37:55 IWDM: Did you say Jes?
1:37:56 S?: Yes.
1:37:58 IWDM: And the other two letters, are U-S?
1:38:00 S?: Us.
1:38:01 IWDM: Us. Jes-Us (Just Us). As-Salaam-Alaikum.
